hopping Tips

For clothes-shopping at Ann Taylor LOFT...
Make sure you are on the mailing list for in-store coupons.  They used to email out coupons that could be used in-store, but they stopped doing this a few years ago.  Now the only coupons you can use in-store are ones you get in your real mailbox at your house :)  These coupons are usually 15% or 20% off your entire purchase depending on how much you spend.
Also, "LOFT loves teachers!"  If you have a faculty ID from any school, you can sign up with LOFT as a teacher and get a 20% off entire purchase coupon to be used online or in-store when you show your faculty ID.  Then, they send you additional coupons through the year.

SierraTradingPost.com for winter boots, snow pants, coats for children...good way to save since -- with the small amount of snow we have -- parents don't like to spend a lot of money on those items

In the same vein, very gently used and good quality boots, coats, etc., at Small Change Consignment Store, Lake Anne Shopping Center, Reston.  Also a good place to get money back by selling the clothes your child has outgrown.

My favorite travel web-site is www.sidestep.com, you can search all the travel sites at once.  And if you’re looking for greener ways to raise your family, check out www.greatgreenbaby.com

We love our diet soda, and in order to save money one day, we tried Harris Teeter’s Brand of soda for only $2.77 for a 12-pack! And the taste is really good!

Go to Lord and Taylor.com and give them your email and/or address, they’ll send you wonderful coupons to use in-store during their sales.  We dress in style for much less.  You can get great deals on evening dresses too!

I save time by grouping like items together.  I.E. I divide my list by the types of food and aisles so that i have all like food items together on the list and i don't need to walk aisles twice.  I usually divide my list as follows: Dairy, Meats, Bread & grains, canned food, frozen food, beverages, desserts.

You can also save money by using a handy PDA program for shopping lists (
http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/Business/Shopping/Pocket-Shopping-List-Pocket-PC-15865.shtml) that keeps track of prices based on stores.  That way you know before you shop how much you'll be spending and also where to get the best deals on the items you need.
